Charles Leclerc in the Sauber for four free practice sessions
Sauber has confirmed the presence of Charles Leclerc at the wheel of the C38 for four Friday morning practice sessions in Malaysia, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil.
Currently leading the F2 championship, which he dominates from head to toe, the Monegasque Charles Leclerc will be given the opportunity to officially make his debut in a Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend at the wheel of a Sauber in the coming weeks.
The member of the Ferrari Young Driver Academy will therefore be entrusted with a C38, powered by an Italian power unit, during the first free practice sessions on Friday mornings for the races in Malaysia, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil.
Often cited as a serious contender for a full-time seat in 2018 with the Swiss team, Leclerc will have the chance to prove his talent just like his Italian colleague, Antonio Giovinazzi, a fellow member of the Ferrari academy, did at the start of the season, replacing the regular driver Pascal Wehrlein for the first two Grand Prix of the season.
In Malaysia, it is against the German that Leclerc will fight, taking advantage of Marcus Ericsson’s seat, who is also seeking an extension of his contract for 2018.
Charles Leclerc had already completed several private test sessions at the wheel of a Ferrari, notably this year after the Hungarian Grand Prix, on the Budapest track.
Very happy to confirm that I will be driving some FP1s with @SauberF1Team. See you in Malaysia 👊 pic.twitter.com/GsI5QyTMcl
