Valtteri Bottas penalized with a 5-place grid drop at Suzuka
Mercedes driver, Valtteri Bottas, will have to drop 5 places on the starting grid of the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka this Sunday due to a gearbox change.
The technical regulations of Formula 1 are very precise on this point: the drivers’ gearboxes must last for a minimum of 6 consecutive races, except in case of retirement.
Forced to change the one on his Mercedes this weekend, Valtteri Bottas will be penalized with a 5-place grid penalty for the Japanese Grand Prix this Sunday.
Indeed, the Finn had already incurred such a penalty during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone last July when he changed his gearbox on that occasion.
