Penalties for Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso
Kimi Räikkönen will be penalized 5 grid places for the Japanese Grand Prix while Fernando Alonso will face a new 35-place penalty.
Kimi Räikkönen’s accident had terrible consequences for the Finn. Indeed, his team was forced to change his gearbox, damaged after the crash, resulting in a 5-place grid penalty for the driver on Sunday.
After a disastrous Grand Prix in Malaysia where he couldn’t even start, the bad streak continues for the Finn and Ferrari.
At McLaren, the news is less surprising and less painful, as they are used to it. A new engine change and a breach of the curfew will force Fernando Alonso to drop back 35 places on the grid… the last place is therefore in sight for the Spaniard.
