Lando Norris becomes a test and reserve driver for McLaren in 2018
Lando Norris has been officialized by McLaren as the test and reserve driver for the 2018 season. The Briton will support Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne.
British hopeful and recent winner of the European Formula 3 Championship, Lando Norris, has been confirmed by McLaren as a test and reserve driver for the 2018 season.
Norris took his first steps in Formula 1 during the private tests at the Hungaroring after the Hungarian Grand Prix last August and confirmed on this occasion the abilities that the British team’s leaders had suspected.
The 17-year-old young man is, of course, very happy to have received the news: “I am very excited to join McLaren as a test and reserve driver in 2018. The past 12 months have been an exciting journey for me, I have enjoyed every second and this is a fantastic way to conclude this year. I look forward to helping the team, which will start next week with tire testing at Interlagos, and I will work hard to develop the car next year. I have two excellent teachers with Stoffel and Fernando,” said Norris.
An enthusiasm shared by Eric Boullier, the team’s Sporting Director: « Lando is someone who comes with a very high level of capability, ambition, and dedication. It is our duty to develop and refine his focus and to ensure he better understands the workings of a Formula 1 team and the operation of a modern single-seater. » concluded the Frenchman.
