BP strengthens its investment in Renault
The ties between BP and Renault will go well beyond F1 as the two companies also intend to collaborate on mobility solutions.
BP made a notable entrance at Renault last year, with high visibility of its two brands, Castrol and BP, on the team’s cars and suits.
After the first year of partnership, the two companies have decided to extend their partnership both in duration and scope. The core of the partnership, extended for at least the next five seasons, obviously concerns the supply of fuel and lubricants to the F1 team owned by Renault.
But, like the extended partnership with the insurer MAPFRE, Carlos Ghosn ensured that this agreement would not be limited to Formula 1 but would encompass the entire activity of the manufacturer, which also owns Nissan and Mitsubishi. Thus, Tufan Erginbilgic, CEO of BP Downstream, commented: “We look forward to continuing our partnership in Formula 1 and exploring new opportunities for cooperation with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, integrating the joint development of advanced mobility solutions and new technologies. The automotive landscape is evolving faster than ever, and BP is determined to remain a leader in the development and commercialization of fuels and lubricants.”
With the development of electric vehicles, in which Renault has invested heavily in recent years, one can envision collaborations that would see the installation of charging stations within the network of service stations owned by the British group.
