Security questioned at the Spanish Grand Prix

Last year, the attacks suffered by numerous representatives of the F1 world made headlines during the Brazilian Grand Prix. This weekend, in Barcelona, there are once again security breaches at the Formula One Circus as many cars had their windows smashed and equipment was stolen from some of them.

The photos taken by Dieter Rencken, one of the paddock’s references, are enough to show the extent of the damage caused.

Karun Chandhok, the former driver turned commentator on Sky, revealed that Channel 4’s van was also vandalized and equipment worth several thousand euros was stolen.

If it seems unacceptable for such attacks to occur in a venue monitored by numerous security personnel, we can at least be relieved that no physical violence was reported this time. In Brazil, one can remember that guns had been drawn during several attacks.

With the high tensions related to the issue of Catalonia’s independence, still very visible in the streets of Barcelona, one can expect demonstrations to take place during or on the sidelines of the event whose official name is the Spanish Grand Prix but which takes place on the Catalonia circuit.
