The new technical director of Sauber comes from Ferrari
The ties between Sauber and Ferrari are confirmed with the arrival of Simone Resta as the technical director of the Swiss team, coming directly from the Scuderia.
We already mentioned it after our meeting with Frédéric Vasseur in the Barcelona paddock: to quickly replace Jorg Zander as technical director, Scuderia Ferrari seemed like the ideal solution.
This materialized as Ferrari confirmed that Simone Resta, who until now was responsible for coordination on vehicle projects, would leave the team at the end of May. It didn’t take long to know his destination since only 26 minutes later, Sauber announced that the same engineer would become their next technical director from July 1st onwards.
A waiting period of only two months is a very short time in the closed world of F1, which shows that the transfer was made with good understanding between the two teams. This allows Sauber to have an engineer from one of the biggest F1 teams, with working methods that are effective. On the other hand, it allows Ferrari to develop the skills of a loyal employee and possibly prepare them to occupy an equivalent position in the years to come within its own structure.
We can therefore consider that the technical collaboration on both sides of the Alps should intensify in the coming months.
