Lando Norris will start at the back of the grid
Lando Norris will start from the back of the grid in Monza due to a power unit change. As for Carlos Sainz, he will be able to keep his power unit used in Belgium.
Three drivers will be sent to the back of the grid at this Italian Grand Prix. Lando Norris, Pierre Gasly, and Max Verstappen have all added new elements to their power units.
Lando Norris was just one lap away from finishing in fifth place at the Belgian Grand Prix last weekend, his best career finish, when he suffered a power loss that forced him to retire. For Monza, he will use Renault’s Spec C engine, which was not initially planned. The British driver will therefore receive a grid penalty.
Norris is on his fourth engine, turbo, MGU-H, MGU-K, and battery. Verstappen is using his fourth engine, turbo, and MGU-H, and his third MGU-K, battery, and electronic system. For Gasly, who inherited Alexander Albon’s quota at Toro Rosso, it is the sixth engine, fifth turbo, MGU-H, and MGU-K, and third battery and electronic system.
For each of its drivers, the penalty exceeds 15 places, so they are sent to the back of the grid. The starting order will be determined during qualifying.
Carlos Sainz took the latest Renault update during the last Grand Prix, along with the penalties that come with it, so he could use the engine block that caused problems during free practice. For the rest of the weekend, he will be able to use the Spec C introduced into his quota of engine components last week, with a penalty he has already served at Spa-Francorchamps.
Ferrari, for its part, has entrusted its drivers Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel with their latest engine for their home race.
The duo from Ferrari has a new ICE as well as a new turbocharger and an MGU-H. However, they remain within the allocated limits and will not have a penalty.
