Charles Leclerc takes pole but regrets this eventful Q3

Highly visible since the beginning of the weekend, Charles Leclerc gave a nice gift to the tifosi, a spot on the highest position of the starting grid for the Italian Grand Prix.

This pole position isn’t the result of a last lap where the driver had to push his car to the limits. In fact, we witnessed a nice organized chaos by the 9 drivers present for this Q3. In the final minutes of this session, the drivers waited until the last moment to start their last fast laps to take advantage of the slipstream. However, only Carlos Sainz managed to cross the start/finish line before the clock ran out.

It is therefore with his lap time of 1:19.307 that Leclerc leads Hamilton, who finished 0.039 behind the Monegasque.

Tomorrow’s race looks more complicated for Leclerc because his teammate Sebastian Vettel will start in fourth position this time, behind Valtteri Bottas who set the third fastest qualifying time.

« What I’m feeling is incredible! Already on Wednesday, in Milan, it was incredible. Today, seeing so many people is absolutely amazing. I’m happy with the pole, but it’s a shame that it was a bit of a mess at the end. I think the pace was quite good during the race simulations in FP2, better than at Spa, so it looks promising for tomorrow. I hope to give the fans a great race.

Charles Leclerc must now finish the job and obtain this victory that has been eagerly awaited by the tifosi since 2010.

Even though the Ferraris have proven they have a clear advantage on the Italian track, it would be wise to be wary of the Mercedes, who will be eager to step onto the top of the podium.
