Hülkenberg at the wheel for the 70th Anniversary GP
Nico Hülkenberg will again replace Sergio Pérez, who has been affected by the coronavirus, at the wheel of the Racing Point for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.
After testing positive for Covid-19, Sergio Pérez had to hand over his seat to Nico Hülkenberg at the Silverstone Grand Prix.
However, it did not go as planned. Indeed, the German driver was unable to start the race due to a mechanical problem with his car.
Unfortunately, the Mexican will have to wait again because after a new test that unfortunately came back positive, the Racing Point team driver is still out for this weekend’s Grand Prix and will not be able to make it to the paddock.
« I am delighted to return with the Silverstone team. » declared the German. « Last weekend was a real step into the unknown after being away from the team for many years but also because I had never driven this car. »
I learned a lot about the RP20 last weekend and I am now ready to use my experience this weekend. Driving on the same track makes things easier and the team has done an excellent job helping me get up to speed.
«I think we can fight for the points, which is definitely my goal. » added Nico Hülkenberg.
Sergio Pérez, on his part, will continue his recovery according to the recommendations of Public Health England. His replacement wishes him all the best in his recovery.
The team director Otmar Szafnauer added: « Nico did a very good job last weekend after receiving a last-minute call to drive for us at Silverstone, and he proved why he was an obvious choice to replace Checo. »
« It’s really a shame that he couldn’t start the race last Sunday, but all this hard work will prove very useful for this weekend. We regret not having Checo with us, but we wish him good luck and look forward to seeing him back on the team in the near future. »
