Formula 1, controlled by Liberty Media, and AMC Network International (AMCNI) have announced they have reached an agreement to broadcast Formula 1 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia until 2023.
AMC will therefore broadcast the Free Practice, Qualifying, and Grand Prix on the Sport 1 and Sport 2 channels as they currently do. The 3-year extension, as was recently the case for Canal+ in France, also allows the broadcast of F2 and F3.
F1 TV, which is currently not accessible in these two Eastern European countries, will be launched in 2021.
Michaella Snoeck, Head of TV/Media Rights in F1, commented via a statement: « We are pleased to extend our broadcasting partnership with AMCNI CNE for an additional 3 years. They provide fans in the Czech Republic and Slovakia with great quality coverage, allowing the sport to increase its popularity. »
« This agreement includes the launch of F1 TV Pro in these two countries to bring fans even more content throughout the races for the next 3 seasons. »
Levente Málnay, regional executive at AMC Networks International – Central and Northern Europe, is also enthusiastic:
« We stood out by allowing our audience to have premium quality broadcasting and information in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This extension will help build a strong partnership with F1. »
Unlike Canal+ and the trend of recent years to broadcast Formula 1 only through paid channels, here Sport 1 and Sport 2 channels are completely free. However, cable/satellite is required.
Note that AMC International is an American company with subsidiaries abroad and was owned by Liberty until 2013 before being sold to the AMC holding company.
