Haas announced a few weeks ago that they will not be renewing their two current F1 drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen. While Romain Grosjean does not yet know what he will do, the Danish driver will be joining Renger Van der Zande in the Chip Ganassi team, Cadillac DPi-VR, in endurance racing.
« If you are a professional racing driver, you definitely know the name Chip Ganassi and what it represents for motorsports. » commented Kevin Magnussen. « He has built a superb racing organization on and off the track, and if you look into the past, they have so much success. »
Indeed, Ganassi’s teams have already won the 24 Hours of Daytona eight times, 7 IMSA titles, and 64 victories between 2004 and 2019. Ganassi has also won the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Note that Magnussen will join Juan-Pablo Montoya as a former F1 driver in this category, but for his part with Team Penske.
Kevin Magnussen began his F1 career with McLaren, replacing Sergio Pérez for two seasons. He was then announced as a Renault driver for the French team’s return to F1 in 2016 before joining Haas from 2017 to 2020.
Haas for its part has announced its new 2021 lineup: a name very well known to F1 fans, Schumacher and Mazepin.
