Canal+ achieves record audiences in 2020

In the editorial team’s top 5, we share with you what stood out for us this 2020 season. And there is no doubt, judging by Canal+’s 2020 ratings, that you appreciated it as well, if not watched it.

On average, each Grand Prix was watched by nearly one million viewers. This includes live figures as well as replays. This statistic is up 27% compared to 2019.

The Bahrain Grand Prix was the most watched on average with 1.18 million viewers. It was also an eventful Grand Prix with Romain Grosjean’s crash.

1.24 million, that’s the number of simultaneous viewers on Canal+ to watch Pierre Gasly’s victory at the Italian Grand Prix.

These figures show that many people are interested in Formula 1 without necessarily watching it on television. However, if they hear through social media or other means that an event is happening at the Grand Prix, they don’t hesitate to connect.

In 2012, when Formula 1 was broadcast on TF1, the average audience was 1.6 million viewers. The F1 audience was divided by four when it switched to Canal+, reaching only 400,000 spectators. Therefore, the progress of the encrypted channel since 2013 is noteworthy.

The numerous exclusive reports and the presence of the dynamic duo Julien Fébreau and Jacques Villeneuve are undoubtedly not unrelated to this.

Canal+ remains the broadcaster of F1 in 2021 and 2022 before a new call for tenders for 2023.
