Alpine F1 unveils its provisional livery named A521

This morning, around 10 am, the new head of Groupe Renault presented the Renaulution plan to announce the group’s changes for the next 6 years. In this context, Laurent Rossi, the replacement for Cyril Abitboul, took the opportunity to launch the A521 and present what appear to be non-final colors on the new 2021 Alpine F1. The livery is announced as temporary, but Luca De Meo did not specify whether the colors were final or not.

The Alpine F1 2021 named A521 is currently black with an Alpine-styled blue, white, and red stripe.
Renault F1 Team has officially given way to Alpine F1 Team. The Facebook group and other social media profiles have just been renamed and the Alpine A521 is born. Presented with great fanfare by the CEO of Groupe Renault himself during the press conference broadcast this morning on YouTube, it is currently just a rebadged version of the 2020 F1 with new colors. The livery features the matte black of the 2020 Renault with the colors of the French flag and the Alpine logo on the engine cover. Among the sponsors, we can see the presence of Renault, DP World, Castrol, Yahoo, and RCI Bank. So, no major changes in this regard.

The main announcements concern the merger of Renault Sport entities under the Alpine umbrella. This involves bringing together more than 1,500 people from Renault Sport Cars, Renault Sport Racing, and Alpine Cars.

Note that Lotus will be partnering with Alpine to develop a future 100% electric A110, but no link is currently made with the F1 team. When Renault returned in 2016, it had bought the Lotus F1 Team. The two entities thus continue to be connected.

« Giving a strong and specific identity to Formula 1 and also to the entire Alpine competition program is both evident and a privilege. By placing motorsport at the center of our approach, the graphic identity is key. The livery presented today is the first evocation of the new identity of the Alpine F1 Team. Some structural graphic elements will remain on the race livery, while others will evolve. The “oversized” Alpine emblem and its tricolor graphic approach is the first strong symbol of the brand’s identity in competition. The blue, white, and red reference the colors of the French and English flags, which is very important to us. Many variations across all competition activities are yet to come.

explains Antony Villain, Alpine Design Director.

The story reverses.

The name A521 pays tribute to the only Formula 1 car developed by Alpine in 1975, the Alpine A500. This single-seater is part of Renault’s plan to join Formula 1. The team, accompanied by Elf and Michelin, conducted tests from 1973 to 1975 before officially entering the F1 championship in 1976 under the name Renault RS01.

In 2021, it was Alpine that benefited from Renault’s last 5 years in Formula 1 to succeed the diamond brand and thus entered its first real F1 in 2021, named A521 in homage to the A500 which was never entered in a race.
