Technical analysis of the AlphaTauri AT02: 2021 version compared to 2020
AlphaTauri is the second team of the season to unveil its new Formula 1 car: the AT02. Although, at first glance, and as expected, not much changes technically, let's take a closer look at the details.
We know that the F1 cars presented in a studio are far from the models that will race in the Grand Prix. Aerodynamic details and adjustments are made based on the circuit constraints. Nevertheless, let’s see what differentiates the AT02 from the AT01.
Visually, at first glance, the new livery appears to be the only new element. A darker coat with almost a reversal of colors compared to last season. A blue stripe runs the entire length of the car and especially its white rims, which we were no longer used to seeing in F1. They remind us of rally cars or even radio-controlled models.
In addition to the graphic design, some aerodynamic elements have been modified. At the front of the car, few changes are noted. The changes are indeed found starting at the sidepods with meticulous modifications on the winglets on each side of the sidepods as well as at the level of the mirror.
The further back you go on the AT02, the more it seems like something has happened. The engineers were forced this season to make some changes related to the new technical regulations.
These concern the floor and the diffuser in particular. This is also the case here with the AT02, which sees its floor decrease on the sides and the vanes on the side of the diffuser also reducing.
We note two other changes. First, the front brake scoops have increased in size. Finally, at the rear, the exhaust outlet appears to have been reworked.
