Engine progress for Ferrari according to Binotto
Scuderia Ferrari director Mattia Binotto is optimistic about the engine block for his single-seaters in the coming season.
The 2021 Formula 1 season may be a redemption for the Scuderia Ferrari, after a disastrous 2020 season that saw the team finish in 6th place in the constructors’ championship. This can only be possible with an engine worthy of the name!
Binotto confident
Aware of his team’s difficulties last year, Mattia Binotto made a clear assessment of the 2020 car in a press conference in Sakhir.
The Italian team principal pointed out the glaring lack of speed of his cars, citing the example of the qualifying session on the same Sakhir circuit in 2020: “We were very slow here last year in qualifying.”
At the time, the two Ferrari drivers (Leclerc and Vettel) had finished in 11th and 12th place. But the year 2021 seems more promising, as illustrated by <Carlos Sainz's 3rd place this Sunday in private testing. It seems that top speed is no longer a disadvantage for us, as even Mattia Binotto admitted to the journalists present at the press conference.
« It would seem that top speed is no longer a disadvantage for us » Mattia Binotto
« We can only say that it’s not just the engine, it’s also a matter of drag. These 2 elements improve our speed in straight lines. And today, the team realizes that it is no longer a disadvantage.
To see in the future if the announced improvements will allow Scuderia Ferrari to compete at the front. It will also be necessary to work on the aerodynamics ahead of the first Grand Prix of the season, also taking place at the Sakhir circuit on Sunday, March 28.
