The end of a Formula 1 stalwart

Formula 1 is losing one of its greatest behind-the-scenes workers. Andrew James, with 25 years of experience as a technical director, will leave his position next month. For a quarter of a century, he has worked to promote and popularize F1, especially in terms of broadcasting races and relations with media worldwide. Andrew James is one of those who have revived the interest of channels and viewers at a time when it was waning.

More recently, he has also excelled in his ability to develop new means of communication during a global pandemic. Allowing exchanges between drivers and journalists and therefore with F1 fans.

His main accomplishment took place in Japan, in 2019. When a typhoon threatens the holding of the race at the Suzuka circuit, Andrew James has the media and technical center moved. Thanks to that, Formula 1 avoids the worst and the race is well broadcasted.

« His contribution was immense »

His departure highlights the importance of those who work every day for the smooth running of Formula 1. Ross Brawn, the F1 sporting director, paid a heartfelt tribute to Andrew James. He has been a cornerstone of our organization for over 25 years and his contribution has been immense. We wouldn’t be where we are today without his ability, commitment, and dedication.

Andrew James can therefore leave with a light heart, with the feeling of duty accomplished: Throughout my journey in Formula 1, I had the privilege of working with passionate, creative, and competent people who have helped elevate Formula 1 to a spectacular level. Now that I am leaving, I know that I have left my mark on this sport, and I am happy to pass the baton to equally capable individuals.

His career in the circuits may not be over, paddock teams could quickly offer him to take another lap on the track.
