An effective strategy

The man with 100 poles was able to rely, in addition to his masterful driving on a circuit he particularly loves, on an effective strategy from Mercedes, which chose to make a second pit stop on the 42nd lap to finish the race on mediums.

The Briton, who had lost first place in the first round, was grateful to his team at the microphones at the end of the race: “The start wasn’t good, Verstappen had a lot of grip on his side of the track, which gave him more traction to overtake me in the first corners. I was able to stay behind him while managing the tires, and I was close to passing him before coming into the pits for the second time. I hesitated to come in but finally trusted my team and we were able to adopt the winning strategy in the end.”

The seven-time world champion used his experience to make a prediction that a single pit stop would be missing for his team: “I knew that on this track it is very difficult to make only one stop and maintain the same level of performance, which therefore made my decision-making easier when it came time to come back in. We had a good pace, and a good strategy, and it is also nice to see the British flags in the stands with the fans.”

The championship leader is off to his best start of the season with 94 points in four races, a good omen for the rest of this exciting season.
