Lando Norris signs a major extension with McLaren

The young driver Lando Norris, who has been with McLaren since 2017 when he was just 18 years old, has just extended his contract with the McLaren team for at least two more seasons.

McLaren’s press release does not state the number of years of the contract, but specifies that it is a multi-season contract.

Regularly involved in Formula 1 as a McLaren driver since 2019, Lando Norris is now in his third season in the championship, alongside Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo.

McLaren had already caused an earthquake last year by signing Daniel Ricciardo very early in the 2020 season, even though it had not really started yet. The same thing is happening this season with Lando Norris renewing his contract as early as May.

Zak Brown, the boss of the papaya team, seems rather happy with this new agreement signed: « I am delighted with this contract extension with Lando for 2022 and beyond. He has been essential in McLaren’s return to the forefront and we are proud of his development since his debut in 2017 with us. »

« He is one of the brightest talents we currently have on the grid. »

Lando Norris achieved a podium this season and another one last year. The young British already has an important history within the Woking team, and Seidl, the head of the F1 team, is all the more delighted: “Like him, we have big ambitions for the years to come, and I am happy to continue our adventure together. With Lando and Daniel, we have two talents in the team.”

Lando Norris, born in 1999 while McLaren was experiencing thunderous years in Formula 1 with David Coutlhard and Mikka Hakkinen, feels at home with McLaren and that’s what can explain this signature: “I’ve been with the team for 5 years and I feel like I’m part of the family here. I couldn’t have imagined the rest of my career anywhere else.”

McLaren helped me since my junior series years and I appreciated the support and development abilities they provided me with. My goal is clear: to win races and become Formula 1 world champion.
