Monaco Grand Prix – Hamilton struggling
The record holder Lewis Hamilton will only start from 7th position in the Monaco Grand Prix. A complicated weekend for the reigning world champion!
It is now confirmed, Lewis Hamilton is struggling in Monaco! The Mercedes driver is behind the wheel of a more withdrawn Mercedes than usual. The Briton was unable to turn things around in qualifying, only managing the 7th fastest time.
Bad feelings
Disappointed enough, Hamilton reacted to the Canal + microphone at the end of the session: “It’s a very bad day in the car, it’s been difficult all weekend. It’s hard to be optimistic for the race, but we’ll see, there might be rain, which could change things.”
The #44 driver then clarified his thoughts on Sky Sports F1: “It wasn’t too bad on Thursday. We made some changes and it was tough on Saturday. From my point of view, I lacked grip. This leads to overdriving, but it doesn’t improve the time!”

In the context of the world championship, and on a circuit where overtaking is very difficult, the seven-time world champion will have his work cut out if he doesn’t want to see Verstappen close the gap in the overall standings.
But Hamilton is already focused on the race: « now it is necessary to move forward and try to give everything. »

Note that the last time Hamilton started the race outside the top 6, at Hockenheim in 2018, he ended up winning the race…
