Monaco Grand Prix – Leclerc: « not a gearbox issue »

Charles Leclerc had achieved the feat of securing pole position this Saturday in Monaco. However, the Ferrari driver crashed his car in the final moments of the session, creating doubt about the condition of his gearbox for Sunday’s race. Ultimately, the local driver was unable to start his Grand Prix due to a transmission issue with his car.

Great disappointment for Scuderia Ferrari but especially for Leclerc, who has never finished the Monaco Grand Prix in three participations: 2018, 2019, and 2021. He spoke shortly after the start of the race on Canal+ microphone.

« The problem is on the rear-left of the car, so not where we hit. It was not a gearbox issue. It’s hard to accept but I want to thank the mechanics who did an incredible job. They gave their all. The mechanics did everything to believe in this victory. »

« The problem is on the back left of the car. It was not a gearbox problem. »

Interviewed if this mechanical problem was still due to his crash in qualifying, Leclerc replied: “Be careful, the mistake on Saturday was mine and I’m sure there is a link with today’s problem on Sunday.”

« We don’t know yet if it’s a part that broke or what exactly happened. We will analyze that. »

Beyond the disappointment in the heat of the moment, Leclerc is also losing points to his competitors in the World Drivers’ Championship.
