3D Reconstruction: Hamilton saved by the halo in his collision with Verstappen at Monza
While Lewis Hamilton is held in the pit for 3 seconds longer than expected, he comes out on the track at the same time as Max Verstappen. The first turn is complicated to negotiate in these conditions and there is a collision. The halo once again helped minimize physical damage in this accident as shown in this reconstruction.
Motors Inside regularly shares with you the accident reconstructions during a Grand Prix, carried out by Crashalong. Once again in this reconstruction of the Max Verstappen accident with Lewis Hamilton at Monza, we realize how important the halo’s role is in protecting the drivers’ heads.
As the two drivers are side by side in the first turn of the Monza circuit, the rear wheels touch and lift the Red Bull of Max Verstappen over the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.
The floor and the rear right wheel of the Red Bull then make direct contact with the top of the Mercedes, even hitting Lewis Hamilton’s halo and helmet several times.
The images of the 3D reconstruction:
Unharmed by this accident, Hamilton can thank the halo, without which he would probably have had more serious head and neck injuries as he himself says in his interview.
If social media has gone wild, pitting fans of both drivers against each other, others have also wanted to salute the importance of the Halo in this accident.
Glad the Halo was there 🙏 #F1 #ItalianGP 🇮🇹 pic.twitter.com/VmYiIUhyRa

Introduced in F1 at the beginning of the 2018 season and often criticized by fans or drivers, it is clear that today its usefulness in F1 is no longer a subject of debate. In the space of 4 seasons, the halo will surely have saved the life of Romain Grosjean in F1, Tadasuke Makino in F2, but also serious injuries to Charles Leclerc in 2018 in Spa or Lewis Hamilton last weekend.
After investigation by the stewards, Max Verstappen was found responsible for the incident and will receive a 3-place grid penalty in Sochi a > during the Russian Grand Prix.
