Michael Andretti could buy Alfa Romeo Sauber
Will Andretti become the majority shareholder of Alfa Romeo Sauber? The rumor is growing within the paddock.
In 2016, the company dear to Peter Sauber was bought by the investment company of Western Switzerland Longbow Finance. Two years later, the racing team passed into the hands of Islero Investments and then Alfa Romeo became the new main sponsor in 2019. Today, it seems that Michael Andretti, the son of the famous Mario Andretti, would like to buy 80% of Sauber’s parent company, Islero Investments, for a total of 350 million euros.
This would not be the first time that the American takes control of a racing team as he already leads Andretti Autosport, a team that participates in IndyCar, Extreme, and Supercars races in Australia, among others.
Frédéric Vasseur reacted to this rumor in Turkey. « I have nothing to say on the subject except that it concerns only the owners of the company. I am just the team leader here. You need to ask the shareholders ».
The possible arrival of Andretti Jr could revive the team’s transfer market (which has still not announced its second driver for 2022) in the coming years. The rumor of the arrival of an American driver in F1, in the person of Colton Herta, should regain momentum. He already drives for Andretti in IndyCar.
