Turkish Grand Prix – Verstappen: « Today the Mercedes were a little faster than us »

The Red Bull driver was not the fastest this weekend, but he consistently stayed close to the two Mercedes drivers. Starting from the front row, the Dutchman chose not to take risks on the slippery and wet tarmac, as there was only one racing line. And with a steady pace, he brought the race to second position, allowing him to overtake his closest rival Lewis Hamilton in the championship.

“In the beginning, I couldn’t get past Valtteri, so I preferred to stay behind to score the maximum points. The car didn’t behave as it should in these conditions, so it wasn’t easy to keep the tires in good condition. But I am once again the leader of the championship and that is the main thing.”

Max Verstappen now has a 6-point lead over Lewis Hamilton with six Grand Prix races left to be held this season.
