Daniel Ricciardo wants to restart the machine in Austin
After his underperformance at the Turkish Grand Prix, which highlights just how much the Australian is struggling this season, Daniel Ricciardo wants to regain the good momentum he had started in Monza as soon as Austin.
Daniel Ricciardo doesn’t want to give up. Arriving in Istanbul with two consecutive races in the top four, including a lifesaving victory in Italy, Ricciardo was hoping to continue this type of performance last weekend. The disappointment was therefore great on Saturday night after his elimination in Q1. Penalized (the loss was minimal, editor’s note) following an engine change, the Australian crossed the finish line in a relatively anonymous thirteenth place without being able to provide any real explanation for his clear lack of pace, especially compared to his young teammate Norris, once again.
The one who has eight victories to his credit seems to have digested his painful weekend in Turkey. I don’t want to act as if this weekend did not exist, but from another point of view, it did. This race should not diminish our fighting spirit, it was just one of those weekends where nothing works, he told the media present in Turkey. Our momentum should not be affected by this kind of race, we are moving on now.
Ricciardo believes that the nature of the turns in Turkey handicapped the McLaren, just like at Zandvoort a few weeks earlier (the orange cars finished only in 10th and 11th place, one lap behind the winner, editor’s note). According to him, things should go back to normal in Austin. “I think we will be really good in certain turns there. The first sector should be fine with its fast turns. I think it will be the same in the hairpins, we are rather good at heavy braking. We should be competitive.”
And what better setting than the United States for McLaren and Ricciardo to aim higher.
