The United States Grand Prix will be broadcast on free-to-air television
The seventeenth round of the 2021 Formula 1 championship will be broadcast on the free-to-air channel C8. For Canal+ subscribers, the encrypted channel will also broadcast the Austin Grand Prix.
In addition to its usual appointment on Canal+ on Sunday afternoons, the Austin Grand Prix will also be broadcast on the channel C8. The Canal group had done the same broadcast for the French GP earlier this season. However, the practice sessions and qualifying will not be broadcast live.
The Canal + group obtained the broadcasting rights for F1 in France in 2013, but since 2017, Liberty Media, the owner of the premier category of motorsport, has commercialized four Grand Prix races for simultaneous broadcast on free-to-air TV. TF1, which aired Formula 1 for twenty years (between 1992 and 2012), had acquired these rights at the time, allowing it to broadcast ten races between 2017 and 2020. However, since the renewal of Canal+’s contract with F1 until 2022, the encrypted channel has secured exclusive rights for broadcasting the sport in France.
Due to regulations, the race on C8 will have to be managed by another team. While Julien Febreau and Romain Grosjean will indeed be present on Canal+ Décalé, it will be Laurent Dupin and Renaud Derlot who will have the opportunity to comment on the United States Grand Prix, on air, this Sunday.
