Pirelli has completed its tire tests for 2022
The Italian brand has completed its testing program on the future 18-inch tires. These tests took place on the Paul Ricard circuit.
Pirelli, which has been the exclusive tire manufacturer for F1 since 2011, has finalized its tests for 2022. It was Daniil Kvyat, the former driver from the Red Bull program, who was in charge of conducting these tests at the wheel of a former Renault car decorated in the colors of Alpine.
The Russian driver completed 167 laps of the circuit, only using intermediate tires. The data collected by Pirelli will be analyzed in Milan and then the tire manufacturer will finalize its definitive specifications for the upcoming season.
Pirelli, which started its tests in February with the Scuderia Ferrari (at the Jerez circuit), had the right to 30 testing days in 2021 to prepare its new range of tires, compared to the usual 25. This decision was made to facilitate the transition to the new 18-inch tires. The Covid-19 pandemic was also taken into account as it complicates the working conditions of engineers.
