Since its engine evolution, Ferrari is faster according to McLaren
For the McLaren team, Ferrari has now taken an option on the third place in the championship thanks to its engine development.
While McLaren seemed to be in a strong position after their one-two finish at Monza and following their very convincing performance in Russia (despite Lando Norris’ frustration), Ferrari appears to have regained the upper hand with their recent engine upgrade. At least, that’s the opinion of their British rival. “I think Ferrari was clearly faster than us,” said Lando Norris at the finish of the United States Grand Prix last Sunday. “If Carlos (Sainz) hadn’t been stuck behind Daniel (Ricciardo), he would have pulled away as Leclerc did. We lacked pace compared to Ferrari throughout the weekend.”
Andreas Seidl, the director of the McLaren team, admits that Ferrari has progressed but does not want to give in to panic. They have taken a big step forward, especially thanks to their new power unit,” he told Motorsport.com. “This has given them a good advantage over us in the last two races but being worried will not help us. We have to focus on ourselves. We know that on our side, there will be no more updates. There are circuits coming up that will better suit the strengths of our car, but on others, we will struggle against Ferrari. We have to extract the maximum from what we have, have trouble-free weekends and good strategies. Hopefully, this will be enough to fight against them until the end.
In the last two Grand Prix races, in Turkey and in the United States, Ferrari has gained back fourteen points on McLaren. The legendary British team now leads its Italian rival by only 3.5 points (254 to 250.5).
