Romain Grosjean unveils his first message received from Räikkönen
The French driver revealed his first message from Kimi Räikkönen when he signed with Lotus for the 2012 season.
Being given a second chance is not something everyone gets in F1. Yet, Romain Grosjean was able to benefit from it, at Lotus, after his unsuccessful stint at Renault, at the end of 2009 (during the famous Crashgate scandal).
After dealing with Fernando Alonso, the Frenchman was going to have to face a formidable teammate: Kimi Räikkönen, also back in competition after two years away.
Grosjean recently discussed his relationship with the Finn when they were teammates on the “In the Fast Lane” podcast.
« Our conversations were the complete opposite of his short career! We didn’t talk much but we could share everything. It was open and it was going well. »
Romain also shared a funny anecdote.
« When I was confirmed by Lotus at the end of 2011, I received a message from Kimi. It was written: Happy for you, no bullshit between us, see you soon. »
Grosjean pursues. « He doesn’t speak for the sake of talking, he goes straight to the point. He just wanted to race and have fun, I admire that. »
The Frenchman also gives his opinion on the end of the career of the 2007 world champion, at Alfa Romeo.
« In recent years, he has not had a good car, so he does what he can. But Kimi is one of the great drivers of the last twenty years. »
In two seasons, the Räikkönen/Grosjean duo brought 24 podiums to the Lotus team (fifteen for the Finn and nine for the former Haas driver).
