Alpine wants to regain ground in Mexico
In the United States, Alpine ended a series of fifteen consecutive Grand Prix races in the points. The French team hopes that Austin was just a simple misstep.
After a particularly difficult United States Grand Prix for Fernando Alonso, who battled with the Alfa Romeo for much of the race, the Spaniard wants to bounce back on a track he loves.
« It’s a new fun track with many passing opportunities and a very long straight line,” said the one who hasn’t set foot on the track at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez since 2018. « The atmosphere will be amazing again and the stadium section is like no other. It’s usually a hot race and we’ll be at high altitude. It will put a lot of stress on the car and on ourselves. »
Ocon also highlights the technical challenge that this track represents. « It’s very tough there, especially because of the altitude. It affects the engine and it is harder for us to find the right settings. The cars are set up with a lot of downforce but with the altitude, the downforce is very low. But I feel ready and the atmosphere will be special this year. »
At the championship, Alpine fiercely defends its fifth place against AlphaTauri. The French team has a ten-point lead over its rival (104 compared to 94).
