Bottas in the Alfa Romeo for the Abu Dhabi tests?
If Mercedes releases Valtteri Bottas earlier than expected, the Finn could join his new team as early as the end of the season.
Ousted next season by Mercedes, who prefers George Russell, Valtteri Bottas has found refuge at Alfa Romeo for 2022 and beyond.
On the 14th and 15th of December, the tests for the new 18-inch tires will take place. Bottas could participate at the wheel of the Alfa, provided that the Mercedes releases him from his commitments earlier than expected.
Frédéric Vasseur, his future employer has confirmed this option on Motorsport.com. We need to discuss this with Mercedes and find an agreement. Valtteri has a contract until the end of the year so we need to find a solution. It would be a good exercise to work together and gain experience even if the car will be completely different next year. It makes sense for him to do the tests with us. It will be about further building the relationship between the team and the driver.
This situation is not new for Alfa Romeo Sauber, which had already managed to release a certain Kimi Räikkönen from his contract with Ferrari at the end of 2018 so that he could take part in the end-of-season tests for the team.
