Bottas’ future teammate will be known on November 16th
As speculations continue to grow around the second Alfa Romeo seat, the team has finally announced the identity of its second driver after the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Alfa Romeo has finally made its decision regarding its second driver for next year. After three years of good and loyal service, Kimi Räikkönen has decided that it was time to call it quits, and Giovinazzi will probably be forced to look elsewhere (although for now, nothing is official).
If the announcement of Valtteri Bottas’ arrival is already known, what about his teammate? « We have already made the decision regarding the other driver » Frédéric Vasseur told Canal +. « The announcement of the name is a formality, you will know our decision on November 16. »
While the team is struggling at the back of the grid (most of the time) since 2020, Vasseur expects Alfa Romeo to bounce back as early as next season. I think we are going to make a big leap with the engine and maybe also with the drivers. We stopped the development of the current car very early, before the others, to work on 2022. Some will be forced to reduce their budget, which will not be our case.
Alfa Romeo is currently fighting for eighth place in the championship since 2020 but the Frenchman, who aims higher, sets his goal to achieve in 2022. « If we finish sixth I would be happy. »
