At 10pm, the FIA – International Automobile Federation – issued a statement asking a technical delegate from Lewis Hamilton’s team to come to the FIA technical centre to explain an issue encountered on the rear wing of Mercedes number 44.
The FIA statement explains that it is an infringement of Article 3.6.3 of the FIA technical regulations. It specifies that the upper movable part of the rear wing has been tested and does not comply with the maximum 85mm spacing tolerance when the DRS is deployed.
This breach of the regulations may result in a penalty at the end of the qualifications where Lewis Hamilton had set the fastest time earlier in the day.
At 12:30 a.m., the commissioners were still deliberating.
Lewis Hamilton is not the only one to have encountered DRS issues. In videos of Max Verstappen, on straight lines, we can also note DRS problems trying to close.
