Will Ferrari lose its title sponsor?
While Ferrari is in discussion with Philip Morris, the Mission Winnow logo may no longer appear on the red cars from 2022.
PMI (Philip Morris), which Ferrari has been trying to renew for several months, has been much talked about since 2018.
For three years now, the Scuderia’s racing cars have been sporting the “Mission Winnow” logo, an initiative by Ferrari’s partner that does not seem to focus on promoting tobacco-related products.
However, from its introduction at the Japanese Grand Prix (in 2018), many governments suspected the sponsor of being disguised advertising for products that should not benefit from it.
As a result, the famous logo appears and disappears throughout the challenges, depending on the countries visited. Ferrari even had to race without the brand in 2020 before it reappeared this season, in a green color. The official name of the Ferrari team, “Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow” has also been changed for the races held in the European Union.
Faced with this situation, which is not very rewarding, PMI could simply leave the Scuderia and Formula 1. When asked about the possibility of keeping its partner, Mattia Binotto prefers to remain vague on the subject.
« We are still in discussions with PMI,” he stated on Motorsport.com. « It is very likely that PMI stays, but maybe not as the title sponsor, we will see. Regarding the Mission Winnow stickers on the car, we are discussing the rights. We will make an announcement when we are ready to do so »
