This weekend, Formula 1 will hold its first race at the Losail circuit, located in the outskirts of Doha. The new race will be the fourth for Formula 1 in the Persian Gulf and will take place after sunset under artificial lighting.

The length of the track is 5380 m and the starting line exceeds 1 kilometer and is 1068 meters long. The track itself is surrounded by artificial grass to prevent sand from getting in.

On Sunday, there will be 57 laps for a race length of 306.66 km.

The location of the Qatar Grand Prix will be the Losail International Circuit located near the city of Doha. The track was opened in 2004 and has mainly been used for Moto GP.

The expected lap times for Formula 1 cars can be estimated based on the lap times of Moto GP riders. The best times for motorcyclists on this track vary around 1 minute 53 seconds, given that a Formula 1 car is faster than a motorcycle by an average of 18 to 22 seconds, the lap times should be around 1 minute 31 seconds.

The fastest lap record is held by Niko Hülkenberg – 1.35.741. It was set during the qualifying session of the 2009 GP2 Asia.

A series of turns 12, 13, and 14 has a triple apex, in fact, it’s a right turn, very fast, that somewhat resembles the famous eighth turn in Turkey, but turning in a different direction.

The only DRS zone in Qatar will be located on the start line.
