Haas is going to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a crash test

With the introduction of the new technical regulations in 2022, all teams will start with a blank slate, which will be welcomed by the Haas team.

On the decline since 2019, the American team has experienced a nightmarish 2021 season, due to a failed car (once again) that didn’t undergo any development.

With the new regulations, seeing a well-placed Haas in 2022 is not impossible, although doubt remains given the size and resources of the team. But before hoping to perform well, they must first design a car and do so on time (Williams knows about this since their 2019 campaign).

Haas plans to assemble its future race car in the Dallara factory in Italy, before flying to Barcelona for the first private tests.

But before that, the team must go through the crash test phase, which is mandatory to make a car legal. The team director, Günther Steiner, hopes that these tests will be completed this week, just before Christmas.

“We have conducted some preliminary crash tests because we are not building the complete chassis immediately, only a part,” he explained to Motorsport.com. “I hope we will pass the crash test, it’s our goal. The car will be assembled before the tests. This year, the assembly will once again take place in Italy, as in previous years.”

We didn’t do that last year because it was an existing car. It was the 2020 car that we simply rebuilt. We are going to assemble the 2022 F1 car in Italy because all the technical personnel is based there and many parts are manufactured by Dallara. Therefore, it’s better to be in their facilities when we assemble the first car, and then we will take it to Spain for testing, he concluded.

It is high time for the Haas team to at least return to the midfield of the pack in order to hope to gain a few points when opportunities arise. We have to go back to the Eifel Grand Prix in 2020 to find one of the two home cars finishing in the points.
