Ferrari in private testing at Fiorano with Leclerc, Sainz, and Shwartzman
The Scuderia Ferrari will take part this week in its first tests of 2022 with a 2018 Formula 1 car instead of a 2020 car at the Fiorano circuit. Both regular drivers will be present.
This Tuesday, January 25th marks the beginning of the 2022 tests for Scuderia Ferrari, as they will carry out private testing on the Fiorano circuit in very wintry conditions. With temperatures ranging between 3 and 8°C, motivation will be key for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Robert Shwartzman will be the first to take the wheel of a 2020 F1 car equipped with 18″ tires as required by the regulations this season. The Russian test driver drove the SF21 in young driver tests in Abu Dhabi just a month and a half ago.
Charles Leclerc will be driving on Wednesday and Carlos Sainz will close the testing session on Thursday.
Update Wednesday, January 26th.
Finally, Ferrari’s tests had to be postponed to Wednesday afternoon instead of Tuesday morning as initially planned. The reason is the unclear FIA rule regarding the use of a recent single-seater during private tests. Therefore, Ferrari will use a 2018 single-seater, the SF71H, with Shwartzman at the wheel on Wednesday afternoon and Friday, while Sainz and Leclerc will share the wheel on Thursday of the same F1 car.
