Barcelona Testing Day 2: Leclerc in the lead, Red Bull breaks down
The second day of the winter testing in Barcelona ends with the best time set by Charles Leclerc's Ferrari, followed by Frenchman Pierre Gasly's AlphaTauri and Daniel Ricciardo's McLaren, with Sergio Perez's Red Bull experiencing a breakdown.
This second day of testing shows Ferrari’s good form with Charles Leclerc at the top of the timesheet (1’19″689) on the yellow C3 tires. The Monegasque completed 79 laps this afternoon.
This day was marked by a gearbox issue encountered by Sergio Perez’s Red Bull at turn 13, who was having a quiet morning with 38 laps completed. The car was carefully brought back to the pit under a cover.
As for the French, Pierre Gasly achieved the second fastest time in 1’19″918 with the red C4 tires (the softest ones used) with a total of 147 laps covered.
Esteban Ocon is a little bit further in the rankings with the fourteenth time in 1’22″164 using the white C2 tires, the hardest ones used today. He completed a total of 125 laps throughout the day.
The reigning world champion team Mercedes, accompanied by their new duo of British drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, completed 106 laps with both cars.
Alonso, Norris, Tsunoda, and Verstappen did not take to the track.
