During testing and qualifying, the speed in the pit lane is limited to 80 km/h. Williams driver Albon was caught speeding at the entrance of the pits at 87.6 km/h and was rightfully penalized.
The fine imposed by the FIA is €800 this time for not complying with Article 34.7 of the FIA Sporting Regulations. The article states:
“The speed in the pits is limited to 80 km/h throughout the weekend. However, the race director may lower this speed during the race upon the safety officer’s recommendation.”
a/ The driver who exceeds this limit will be fined 100€ per km/h over the limit, up to a maximum of 1000€.
b/ In accordance with article 18.1, the commissioners may impose additional penalties if they believe that the driver is deliberately seeking an advantage.
During sprint sessions or the race, the officials may impose other penalties related to articles 54.3 a, 54.3 b, 54.3 c, or 54.3 d.
