Azerbaijan Grand Prix – Lewis Hamilton driver of the day
Thanks to his good performance today, Lewis Hamilton wins the driver of the day title.
Starting from seventh place, Hamilton had a difficult start to the race. He first suffered a clumsy pit stop from Mercedes during the first virtual safety car intervention, costing him a position to Sebastian Vettel. Then, for several laps, he struggled to pass Esteban Ocon’s car before eventually overtaking him.
During the second intervention of the virtual safety car, the British driver made a second pit stop to put on new hard tires. It was then that he regained a surplus of energy and began his climb, first overtaking Yuki Tsunoda and then Pierre Gasly, gaining over ten seconds and ultimately taking fourth place despite some back pain.
The seven-time world champion once again demonstrated the extent of his talent by driving a moderately performing car and enduring back pain. He therefore minimized the damage and brought valuable points to Mercedes.
