Rankings after Austria: Leclerc regains second place

34 points is the maximum number of points a driver could collect this weekend by setting the fastest lap and winning both races (25 + 8 + 1). In a team with two cars, an additional 25 points can be scored. Therefore, a team can leave a sprint race weekend with a total of 59 points.

Once this observation is made, it is Mercedes who scores the most points this Sunday, but not over the entire weekend. 6 on Saturday and 27 on Sunday, making a total of 33 points for the reigning world champion German team. Ferrari takes in a total of 38 points and Red Bull 31.

The Haas team made an impression this weekend thanks to a solid performance from Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen: 14 points scored this weekend, which is as much as Alpine, notably due to major reliability issues within the French team in recent weeks, including this weekend.

At the top of the championship, it’s Leclerc who made the best move of the weekend by taking advantage of Perez’s retirement to take second place in the standings. Verstappen still has a large lead: 38 points. Behind, it’s very close between Sainz and Russell. The English driver is now only 5 points away from 4th place.

Note that Ricciardo scores points for the fourth time this season.
