The speed in the pitlane this weekend is limited to 60 km/h and Pierre Gasly was caught entering at a radar-recorded speed of 77.8 km/h. By exceeding the limit by almost 20 km/h, he will be fined 1000€.
Article 34.7 of the Formula 1 sporting regulations states that any driver who fails to abide by the imposed speed limit in the pit lane will be penalized with a fine of 100€ per Km/h exceeding the imposed limit. The maximum fine limit is set at 1000€.
This weekend at Le Castellet, the speed is limited to 60km/h and not 80km/h as on some tracks because the pit stop here is relatively short and fast. This prevents the driver from gaining any advantage by going through the pits.
