Pierre Gasly penalized for engine change in Hungary

The FIA has just confirmed a 10-place penalty for Pierre Gasly due to an engine change. The French driver, who was starting 19th, didn't have much to lose and is therefore allowed to use his 4th power unit of the season. He will start from the pit lane.

Pierre Gasly penalized for engine change in Hungary

AlphaTauri has decided to violate the sporting regulations which require each driver to use only 3 power units throughout the season. By installing a 4th power unit this morning on Pierre Gasly’s AlphaTauri, it’s a penalty that forces the driver to start from the pit lane.

However, the choice is wise. Pierre Gasly could only qualify in 19th position. Arriving in Hungary with his power unit quota already reached, they logically take advantage of this situation to unlock a fourth new engine and thus reduce the impact on his race.

The power units are composed:

– du moteur thermique (3 par saison),

– du moteur électrique de récupération d’énergie par la chaleur MGU-H (3 par saison),

– du moteur électrique de récupération d’énergie cinétique MGU-K (3 par saison),

– du turbo (3 par saison),

– des batteries (2 par saison),

– de la carte électronique (2 par saison)

– et enfin de l’échappement (8 par saison)

Gasly has therefore installed a 4th power unit, a 3rd battery, and a 3rd electronic management system.
