With Aston Martin, Alonso will have had 8 Formula 1 teams

At the age of 42, next year, Fernando Alonso will be at Aston Martin and will have experienced 8 different Formula 1 teams.

Since his arrival in Formula 1 with Minardi in 2001, the Spanish driver has already accumulated 19 seasons in 21 years (2 years spent outside of Formula 1). It was with Renault from 2003 to 2006 that he won his two world championship titles. After that, he signed with McLaren alongside Lewis Hamilton, but in the end, Alonso only stayed there for one season before returning to Renault for just 2 short seasons.

It was in 2010 that Alonso arrived at Scuderia Ferrari, where he would compete in 4 Formula 1 World Championships and finish second in the Drivers’ World Championship 3 times during his 5 seasons.

In 2015, Alonso decided to return to McLaren, which was experiencing enormous difficulties at the time. However, he stayed with the team for 4 seasons before deciding to leave Formula 1 at the end of the 2018 season.

Having competed in several rally and endurance competitions, he finally returns to F1 with the Alpine project at the dawn of the 2021 season.

While he is only 41 years old and has already had 19 seasons under his belt, Alonso has already experienced 6 team changes. In comparison, Kimi Räikkönen, who retired from Formula 1 at the age of 42 last year, has experienced “only” 6 different teams throughout his 19 Formula 1 seasons (Sauber, McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo).
