Verstappen cleared in the case of Leclerc’s visor protection stuck in the brakes
Charles Leclerc had a brake issue at the beginning of the Belgian Grand Prix last week. Initially, Max Verstappen's visor protection was called into question, but ultimately Lance Stroll was able to be implicated by the F1 footage and technical review.
F1 offers a show after each Grand Prix and it was in this show that Sam Collins showed that Max Verstappen was too far from where he removed his visor protection for it to get stuck in Leclerc’s brake ducts. Indeed, the moment the footage captured the visor protection getting lodged in the brake ducts was filmed a few hundred meters before. The images show that it was actually Lance Stroll’s visor protection that could be responsible.
The irony was striking for the world of Formula 1. Starting 14th and 15th in the Belgian Grand Prix, Verstappen and Leclerc fought for position in the opening corners until an overheating of Leclerc’s brakes forced him to pit. Verstappen, who was quickly singled out, was not the only one to remove a tearoff (protective cover) from his visor. Lance Stroll and other drivers were also involved.
According to the images, the moment where Verstappen removes his protection happens a few seconds after Leclerc cleared the debris from his brakes. It would be Lance Stroll, who also removed a protection, who would have ruined Leclerc’s first laps.
