5000 Euros fine for McLaren releasing Norris dangerously during qualifying

As Yuki Tsunoda was entering his garage, located just after McLaren’s, Lando Norris was released from his pit box, causing a dangerous situation in the pit lane during qualifying.

If no damage has occurred, Tsunoda lost time and got a flat on his front left tire while Russell, who was coming from behind, was also disrupted and had to stop.

The FIA deemed the team responsible and not the driver, and fined McLaren €5000. Therefore, no penalty is imposed on the English driver.

The race commissioners have reviewed the evidence and videos and determined that car number 4 was released from the garage in front of Tsunoda, narrowly avoiding an accident. In violation of paragraph 34.14 a) of the F1 sporting regulations, a financial penalty is applied.
