Rankings: The battle continues between Alpine and McLaren with three races remaining

We now have our 2022 world champion team: it is indeed Red Bull, with a lead of 187 points over Ferrari with three races remaining in the season. The Austrian team is therefore uncatchable and wins its 5th Formula 1 constructors’ title after the 4 titles between 2010 and 2013.

Behind, second place seems promised to Ferrari with three races remaining and a 51-point lead. However, Hamilton, who finished second in Austin, proves that Mercedes can still technically catch up to Scuderia Ferrari.

The fight is much tighter when it comes to the 4th place. Indeed, Alpine, which has just been penalized by the FIA regarding Alonso’s car, loses a lot of points and sees McLaren logically closing the gap to 6 units. The two teams have been very close for several races now, and McLaren, despite Ricciardo’s poor performances, manages to fight against Alpine, which is stronger but less reliable, thanks to their reliability.

On the drivers’ side, the stakes no longer revolve around the drivers’ title since Verstappen claimed his second title at the last Grand Prix in Japan. However, the battle is still ongoing for the runner-up position, as Leclerc, with his podium finish in Austin, reclaims second place in the drivers’ standings from Sergio Perez.

If Red Bull manages to place Perez as Verstappen’s runner-up, the team would achieve an unprecedented feat in its history, as Mark Webber never managed to be Vettel’s runner-up during the 2010 to 2013 championships.
