Eric Boullier announces the dissolution of the company promoting the French Grand Prix
This is the end of hopes for a French Formula 1 Grand Prix in the years to come. The GIP Grand Prix de France company will be dissolved this week, according to Eric Bouiller, its director.
Despite our research, no legal announcement published in the Official Journal mentions a dissolution of the GIP Grand Prix de France. However, Eric Bouiller himself mentioned it to our colleagues at l’Equipe.
« It’s the end of a story. It’s a pity that it’s ending after all the efforts made for this final edition to run perfectly. For five years, the South region has allowed this event to return to the calendar and has allowed our country to be back at the highest level. » commented Eric Boullier to L’Equipe.
The French Grand Prix did not take place in 2023, even though the door had been left open when the cancellation of the 2023 Chinese Grand Prix was announced. However, the organization of the French Grand Prix, which relied on regional subsidies, could not continue to exist while waiting for the return of the French Grand Prix to the Formula 1 calendar.
There will no longer be any organization to negotiate or propose a Grand Prix de France to Formula 1 and Stefano Domenicali, its director.
The French Grand Prix will therefore not return in 2024 either as had been envisioned, alternating with another circuit on the calendar like Belgium.
