The F1 has not yet officially announced the agreement, but Melbourne has taken care of it itself. The circuit had reached an agreement until 2035 with the Formula One Management (FOM), but it is the State of Victoria that has just announced an extension of the race agreement in Melbourne until 2037.
« Melbourne as host of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix for two additional years. The extension adds to the 10-year agreement already reached by the government earlier this year, giving a new boost to local businesses and jobs, bringing in tens of thousands more.
» Explains the statement.
The demand is strong for ticket sales in Australia, and the 2022 Grand Prix, which attracted over 419,000 people over three days, is undoubtedly a compelling argument that has weighed in favor of an extension for the next 15 seasons.
The Grand Prix of this year attracted a record participation of approximately 419,000 people and 2023 is expected to welcome even more people. The event organizers are considering a record number of spectators after tickets for the main race day sold out in just three and a half hours after being released, continues the statement.
The French Grand Prix of F1 2023 is absent from the calendar, and Australia has been chosen additionally to host the Formula 2 and Formula 3 races starting from 2023, thus reinforcing the FOM’s interest in Melbourne.
In 2023, just like in the previous seasons, Australia will have a full-time driver, but it won’t be Daniel Ricciardo anymore. Oscar Piastri is now Australia’s representative among the F1 drivers in 2023.
