Romain Grosjean doesn’t lose hope of getting some track time with Mercedes
The promised test drive by Mercedes and Toto Wolff for Romain Grosjean has still not been carried out. Romain Grosjean admits that his lack of time is due to this delay and he fully intends to do it.
Romain Grosjean experienced a very serious accident in Bahrain just a few races before the end of the season. Despite his retirement from F1 announced at the end of the 2020 season, he was therefore unable to participate in his final F1 races. In addition to narrowly escaping death, Romain Grosjean thus had a slight bitterness in finishing the F1 season this way.
Toto Wolff had then proposed to the Swiss-French driver to race one last time in Formula 1, in a Mercedes. The test was supposed to take place in 2021 during the French Grand Prix, but due to the Covid-related issues, the French Grand Prix was moved forward by one week, making the planned test impossible. Indeed, Grosjean, who has since joined Indycar, was supposed to participate in a race that same weekend.
“I haven’t lost hope of doing the filming, but it’s a bit my fault that we haven’t done it yet,” he explained during the Canal+ conference.
Romain Grosjean doesn’t lose hope of taking his test with Mercedes. « I store the helmet [from Mercedes] in the meantime, it’s gathering a bit of dust but I’m sure it will be useful. »
Toto Wolff had reiterated that he could indeed have Romain Grosjean drive, but a date had not yet been found.
